Gary Cunningham Memorial and Toonie Hot Dog Night This Saturday Night
THOROLD, ONTARIO (June 20, 2023) … Cotton Inc. will be presenting the annual Gary Cunningham Memorial for the Southern Ontario Sprints, as the “The 360 cubic inch Winged Warriors” will be making their first appearance of the season to the Merrittville Speedway this coming Saturday night. Saturday night will also feature Toonie hot dog night. All hot dogs on the grandstand side will be on sale for just a Toonie ($2).
The Gary Cunningham Memorial is held annually at Merrittville in honor of the renowned engine builder who passed away in 2010 at just 61 years of age. Gary’s competitive spirit lives on in the hearts of many local racers including his son Travis, an accomplished racer in both a 360 Sprint Car, and a 358 Modified. Travis also served as a track announcer at both Merrittville and Humberstone, as well as being co-host of the Southern Ontario Dirt Show podcast with Merrittville Speedway announcer Jonathon Howe.
This will make the second scheduled appearance of the season for the Southern Ontario Sprints (SOS), as their scheduled event in April was rained out. The winner will garner $3000.00. Joining the SOS will be the Corr/Pak Merchandising 358 Modifieds, Hoosier Stocks, Vansickle Pet Valu/PV on the Lane 4 Cylinders, and the RONA/Doidge Building Centre Mod Lites.
Pit Gates will open at 5pm, grandstands open at 5:30pm, and racing will get underway at 7pm.
